  • New WIDA modules: WIDA online module in the NC educator effectiveness system part of the PowerSchool home page
    • Log on to the NC Educator Effectiveness System:
  • click the Professional Development tab at the top
  • scroll to the bottom right and found the area, "Focus Area Aligned Courses"
  • click on English as a Second Language
  • WIDA course shows up as the second offering- number 235

  • Formative Assessment: "One Word" - choose one word to express how you feel about the ASW process right now!

  • Parking Lot - answer questions from the parking lot and/or share with appropriate parties who can provide answers


  • Activity A: Small groups work by discipline/grade or proficiency levels to:
    • Choose one objective that lends itself well to ASW (Is the objective measurable and observable at two points in time)?
    • Discuss possible collection methods for student work samples
    • Discuss how well this objective connects with how you teach and assess your students
    • Share out with whole group

  • Activity B: Small groups and/or individuals:
    • Use the "Choosing objectives" sheet (hard copy or blank template below) to analyze objectives across multiple grades/proficiency levels in your discipline and to answer whether each objective links well now to ASW; might link soon; or may link but not at the moment.
    • Discuss/brainstorm the questions from Part A above.
