The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is partnering with Meredith College to host the third annual “ARTS R4 Life” professional development conference for NC K-12 Arts Educators in Dance, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts. Pre-service arts educators and faculty from Institutes of Higher Education interested in K-12 arts education are also encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity for arts educators to develop personalized multi-disciplinary learning experiences and have cross-sector learning and collaboration around the 4R’s:

      • Rekindle your artistic spirit by participating in hands-on arts experiences**

      • Reflect on the profession through deepening your understanding of the standards to support student learning and growth**

      • Reconnect with colleagues and professional organizations**

      • Renew your body and mind through expressive, contemplative, and rejuvenating experiences designed to promote your well-being**

This conference supports NC’s vision for Comprehensive Arts Education as part of a well-rounded education for all NC school children and has sessions and opportunities that address Arts Education, Arts Integration, and Arts Exposure.

Check-in for the conference begins at 7:30am in the Rotunda in Johnson Hall at Meredith College. After checking in, participants may enjoy light refreshments and visit the art exhibit prior to the opening welcome and orientation session in Jones Auditorium at 9 am.

Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with your invoice for payment of the registration fee.

NCDPI is partnering with Meredith College (host), the NC Arts Education Think Tank Members, the NC Arts Education Leadership Coalition, and the Department of Cultural Resources/A+ Schools Program of the NC Arts Council to host the second annual “ARTS R4 Life” professional development conference for NC K-12 Arts Educators in Dance, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts. Arts Education Think Tank Meetings

The Arts Education Think Tank is a representative group of arts education leaders across all arts education disciplines and all regions of NC who come together to discuss relevant issues. The Think Tank collaborates with stakeholders and NCDPI to develop tools and resources to support arts education in NC's schools.

Virtual invitation to members

NC Arts Education Coordinators

The NC Arts Education Coordinators are a group of individuals representing the school systems across North Carolina who come together twice a year to discuss issues impacting arts education in North Carolina's schools. Often, meetings will include the sharing of resources and professional development, as well as discussion of policies, legislation and issues impacting arts education. This group includes Arts Supervisors, Directors of Arts Education, Superintendents/Associate Superintendents, Lead Teachers or other teacher representatives, Curriculum Coordinators, and others. Faculty from Institutions of Higher Education and leadership from statewide organizations are also invited to attend. Invitations and registration information is sent through the Arts Education Listserv and posted on this website.

Arts Education Leadership Coalition

The Arts Education Leadership Coalition (AELC) is comprised of the leadership of statewide NC Arts Education Professional Associations in Dance, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts and Partner Organizations: NCDPI, NCDCR, and ARTS North Carolina. The coalition began as a grassroots efforts in the 1990s and reconvened in September 2014. The organizations come together to discuss issues impacting arts education and how they can implement cross-sector collaboration to support implementation of Comprehensive Arts Education in North Carolina. The AELC is meeting on September 9, 2016, immediately following the Arts Education Coordinators Meeting.
