Arts for All: Universal Design for Learning and Inclusive Strategies

Arts Access is pleased to present a workshop on strategies for creating inclusive arts education experiences for students with emotional disabilities and behavior challenges. This workshop is presented in partnership with the NC Arts Council, NC Department of Public Instruction, and VSA. The workshop is geared toward teaching artists but if spaces are available all interested parties are welcome.

JAEHN ("Jane") CLARE has more than thirty years experience as an actor, director, producer, playwright, teaching artist and arts administrator. She holds a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Minnesota, and an MA in Dramatic Literature from the University of Essex, in Colchester, England. Since 1986, Jaehn has been active as a disability awareness educator and trainer, offering workshops in a variety of community settings. As a Teaching Artist, she has worked with diverse participants in diverse school and community settings across the U.S. and abroad, including a four-week long residency in Cairo, Egypt in July 2007. In 2006 Jaehn was selected as one of five inaugural VSA arts Teaching Artist Fellows, and she has performed at several VSA arts International Arts Festivals since 1992.

Including Students with Physical Disabilities and Communication Barriers in Arts Education

Wednesday, June 5th - 3:30 to 4:30 pm
Arts Access is pleased to present a webinar on methods for creating an inclusive arts education experience for students with physical disabilities and communication barriers.
Presenter Lisa Williams, director of Tadpole Lending Library, will inform participants about communication barriers faced by students with physical disabilities, and share strategies to overcome these obstacles. Panelists Betsy Ludwig, Sandy McMillan, and Kay McMillan will identify resources for assistive technology, communication systems, and adaptive equipment that may be useful for arts educators. This webinar is presented in partnership with the Tadpole Lending Library, New Voices Foundation, NC Arts Council, NC Department of Public Instruction, and VSA. The webinar is geared toward arts educators but all interested parties are welcome.
